What a children’s portrait holds
A children’s portrait is a handmade drawing of one child, or of siblings together. It is a keepsake of a particular age: the expression, the hair, the way they hold themselves in the photograph you choose. Ammama works from that picture. How a children’s commission is planned

Choose pencil or color
Graphite is quiet and lasting. Color can keep a favourite jumper or a garden light. Either is drawn by hand.

Send a recent, sharp photograph
A clear face matters more than a formal pose. Children move; a slightly imperfect but sharp frame is better than a soft studio smile.

Mention siblings or a name if it helps
If two children should share the page, say so in the notes and upload a picture of each when you do not have them together.

Drawn at the age in the photograph
The artist will not age the child forward or invent a pose that is not in the reference.
Photographs of children
Young faces need light and sharpness more than they need a perfect pose.
- Choose a picture where both eyes are visible and the face is not heavily filtered.
- Outdoor shade or a window is usually kinder than a flash or a dim room.
- If you want a baby included, send the clearest recent picture you have, even if it is informal.
- Do not crop tightly. The artist needs a little space around the head and shoulders.
