Why people give a portrait
A custom portrait gift is artwork commissioned for someone else — a parent, a partner, a graduate, a friend who has lost an animal, a couple beginning a marriage. The object is the drawing. The meaning is that you noticed a photograph worth keeping and asked an artist to sit with it. Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and memorials are common reasons. So is “there was no occasion, and that is why it matters.”

Choose the kind of drawing they would live with
Pencil is quiet and lasting. Color keeps the clothes and the weather of the day. Either can be a gift.

Use a photograph they would recognize as themselves
The kindest gift is a likeness they will accept. Avoid a picture they have always disliked, however dear it is to you.

Keep the surprise, if there is one
You place the order. They do not need an account. Delivery can come to you first if the portrait should stay hidden.

Ammama creates the artwork by hand. You wrap it, or we send it to the address you confirm at checkout.
Choosing a photograph for someone else
You are choosing the image they will see of themselves. That is a responsibility, and a kindness when it is done well.
- Pick a photograph they look like in, not only a photograph you love of them.
- Recent pictures usually serve better for gifts meant to feel like now. Older pictures are right when the gift is memory itself.
- If several people will appear, make sure every face is a gift, not an afterthought in the corner.
- Do not send photographs you do not have permission to share. The person in the picture should be someone you may commission.

Timing
Handmade work is not overnight. Place the order with enough time for drawing, any preview, framing if chosen, and delivery. Turnaround is confirmed after the studio reviews the order.
