Eyes and the shape of the mouth should be visible. A hat brim or a turned cheek can hide what the drawing needs.

Contrast helps. A face lost in shadow is harder to recover in graphite than one that is simply unposed.

Send the full photograph. Cropping can wait; the artist needs the space around the subject.

What if my photograph is not perfect?
Many commissions begin with an ordinary phone photo. What matters is that the face can be read. If you are unsure, send the clearest image you have and mention your concern in the order notes.
Can I choose color instead?
Yes. If you would rather have warmth and clothing color on the page, commission a colored portrait from the same photograph.
